NBA All-Star Weekend

Fun Fact of the Day: It’s NBA All-Star weekend! Unfortunately, L.A. Clippers point guard Chris Paul didn’t get enough votes to be a starter for the Western Conference team. Nearly half of his 735,460 fan votes were the work of pop star Justin Bieber! Bieber voted twice for Paul and encouraged millions of Beliebers to follow his lead and vote for Paul on Twitter.

Today’s Rundown

What are you looking at?  N.Y. Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis was involved in a street fight last weekend. He was charged with aggravated assault, robbery, terroristic threats, and conspiracy. Whoa, what happened?  Revis was walking through Pittsburgh late at night, when a fan followed him through the streets and recorded him with his cellphone. Revis grabbed the fan’s phone and tried to delete the video, which led to a scuffle. Several bystanders joined in, and Revis punched 2 of them out. This run in with the law is not good news for Revis, because his future with the Jets was already in jeopardy. Revis used to be one of the best cornerbacks in the league, but last year, he had the worst season of his career.

Romo on the loose. Rumor has it, the Dallas Cowboys are planning to release QB Tony Romo instead of trying to trade him to another team. This seems like a pretty good decision for the Cowboys. After all, Romo is turning 37 in April, he’s been riddled with injuries over the past 2 seasons, and he still has 3 years and $55M left on his contract. It was going to be tough to find a team interested in trading anything of value for him.

A lone wolf.  North Carolina State will fire their head coach Mark Gottfried at the end of this season. When Gottfried first started he led NC to the NCAA Tournament for 4 straight years. Then they missed the Tournament last season, and unfortunately, it looks like they are destined to repeat, this season. The team has lost its last 6 games.

Never bet against Tom Brady.  Like most of us watching the first half of Super Bowl 51, Canadian tennis player and Sports Illustrated model Genie Bouchard thought that the Atlanta Falcons were a shoe-in to win. When she tweeted out her prediction mid-game, a fan immediately asked, “if the Patriots win, can we go on a date?” Bouchard agreed because it seemed like a sure thing. Then, of course, Tom Brady happened. Yesterday, Genie kept her side of the bargain and took the Twitter stranger on a date to the Brooklyn Nets-Milwaukee Bucks game.
