The One with a Case of the Yips

Fun Fact of the Day:  Florida State University has produced 4 kickers in the NFL (Sebastian Janikowski, Graham Gano, Dustin Hopkins, and Roberto Aguayo). No other school has more than 2.

Today's Rundown

He’s not for sale.  Multiple teams have reached out to the Cleveland Browns to ask about wide receiver Josh Gordon, but the Browns aren’t interested in trading him. Who is that again?  Back in 2013, Gordon was one of the best wide receivers in the game. Then he tested positive for marijuana over and over and over again. He was suspended all of last year and the first 4 games of this season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. He’s a risky player to be sure, but the Browns want to keep him around because he has a cheap contract and there’s a lot of upside, if he can keep clean.

A massive case of the yips.  Sound the alarm! Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Roberto Aguayo has missed 2 field goals and an extra point so far this preseason. Yesterday, fans even booed him for missing 3 out of 6 attempts during practice. The Bucs are looking pretty silly right about now because they traded up to get Aguayo in the 2nd round of the draft. It was a move that made everyone go, “Huh?” because kickers are a dime a dozen and usually go much deeper in the draft. But as the 3rd best kicker in NCAA history, the Bucs thought Aguayo would be a big help right away. Hopefully, he can get out of this funk before the regular season starts.

The lonely ranger. Veteran outfielder Josh Hamilton has been released from the Texas Rangers. He hasn’t played all season because of knee injuries, so this wasn’t a huge surprise. Once he’s healed up, the Rangers said they’ll consider bringing the 35-year-old back on board.

Seen and Heard

Come one come all!  ESPN analyst and former NFL QB Tim Tebow is going to work out for 20 MLB teams next Tuesday (Aug. 30). Yes, you read that right—MLB teams. At 29 years old, Tebow has decided to try his hand at baseball after bouncing around the NFL for a few seasons and getting cut in 2015.  Tebow was good at baseball back in high school, but he hasn’t played in 11 years. It’s not going to be easy. Just ask Michael Jordan or Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson, who each dabbled in the minor leagues. When asked if he had any advice for Tebow, Wilson said "Hope he can hit a curveball. Baseball's pretty hard."

A gold, 2 silvers, and a love connection.  During a Yahoo Sports Q&A session, Gymnast Aly Raisman was asked out on a date by Oakland Raiders player Colt Underwood. She called him “super cute” and said yes. Some might say he’s outkicked his coverage by snagging a date with Aly; he’s only a backup tight end with 4,000 Twitter followers, while Aly has 5 career Olympic medals and her parents are a meme.

Move over Steph Curry. There’s a new ridiculous shoe on the market and this time it belongs to Houston Rockets star James Harden. Yesterday, he released his Triple Black Signature Adidas shoe and it looks more like something a lumberjack would wear than a basketball star. Let the roasting begin!
