The Falcons’ New Offensive Coordinator

Fun Fact of the Day: Now that football is over, college basketball is starting to heat up. Be sure to keep your eye out for aptly named Lonzo Ball, UCLA’s star point guard—and you should get used to the name Ball. Lonzo has 2 younger brothers that are also committed to UCLA, LiAngelo and LaMelo. LaMelo scored 92 points in a high school game last night.

A little rusty.  The Atlanta Falcons have announced that former Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian will be their new offensive coordinator. He will replace Kyle Shanahan, who left after the Super Bowl to become the San Francisco 49ers’ new head coach. Sarkisian is an interesting choice because he hasn’t been in charge of calling plays for a while… Let’s review his background, so you can see why. He was previously the head coach at USC. Then in 2015, USC fired him because he showed up drunk to a booster event. Sarkisian checked into rehab and cleaned up his act. A year later, Alabama hired him as an offensive analyst and promoted him to offensive coordinator for one game, last month’s College Football Playoff Championship. It was his first time calling plays since getting fired in 2015, and Alabama lost to Clemson 35-31.

Somethings a’Bruin in Boston.  The Boston Bruins fired their head coach of 10 years, Claude Julien. Julien helped lead the team to their Stanley Cup victory in 2011 and he has the record for the most wins in franchise history. Even though the Bruins aren’t doing so great this season, most people think it’s not Julien’s fault; the team just needs to sign more defensive talent. Regardless, Julien should land on his feet. He’s got a rep as one of the best coaches in the league, so there should be plenty of interest in his services.

How to Lose a Guy in 15 Days.  Yesterday, famed N.Y. Knicks President Phil sent out a subtweet criticizing his star player Carmelo (“Melo”) Anthony. The gist: Melo has a lot of offensive talent, but he’s a ball hog and lacks the fire to win a championship. The content wasn’t exactly a surprise, Jackson has made similar complaints in the past, but the timing of his tweet was pretty suspicious. What is going on?  Over the past few months, things have gotten a tense on the Knicks. Not only has the team slipped out of playoff contention, but Jackson has been throwing shade at Melo to the media. Then a couple weeks ago, rumors started circulating that the Knicks were trying to trade Melo. The trouble is that Melo has a no-trade clause in his contract, and he has no interest in leaving N.Y. Now, it looks like Jackson’s plan is to make things so awkward and uncomfortable that Melo wants out of his contract before the trade deadline on February 23.

Party like a Patriot.  Yesterday, the New England Patriots celebrated their Super Bowl victory with a parade through the Boston streets. Even though star tight end Rob Gronkowski hasn’t played since November, he wasn’t too injured to party on a float. Here are some photos of him chugging beers shirtless to help you get through your Wednesday.
