Fun Fact of the Day: 12% of NFL teams that have started the season 0-2 have made it to the playoffs since 1990.
Climb on board the Wentz wagon! Last night, the Philadelphia Eagles beat Chicago Bears (29-14). The Eagles’ rookie QB Carson Wentz followed up last week’s win with another impressive performance. By comparison, Bears QB Jay Cutler fumbled the ball, threw an interception, got chewed out by a teammate, and left the game with a thumb injury. TBD on whether he’ll miss more playing time or if the Bears will join the growing list of teams that is looking for a QB.
Are you looking at me? San Francisco Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner (aka “MadBum”) tried to pick a fight with L.A. Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig, during last night’s game. In the 7th inning, Bumgarner helped field a ball to get Puig out. Afterwards, he didn’t like the way Puig was giving him the side eye, so he started yelling “Don’t f***ing look at me!” Both benches cleared and there was some light shoving. The Dodgers went on to beat the Giants 2-1, who are currently tied with the St. Louis Cardinals for the 2nd NL wild card spot.
Spotlight on the Biggest NFL Injuries
This past weekend a bunch of teams suffered injuries to key players. Now, they’re scrambling to find replacements. Here’s your update on the biggest injury news to date.
Anyone know where we can find a QB? The New England Patriots are scraping the bottom of the QB barrel. As a quick refresher, old reliable Tom Brady is out serving a 4-game suspension because of Deflategate. His stand-in Jimmy Garoppolo was doing great for a whole… 1.5 games, before he left the game with a sprained shoulder joint. Even though the Pats aren’t sure how long Garoppolo will be out, all signs are pointing to rookie Jacoby Brissett starting this week’s game against the Houston Texans.
Who’s backing him up? There’s a slim chance Garoppolo will be back. If not, the Pats’ emergency QB is their wide receiver Julian Edelman, who played QB for Kent in college. No, you’re not crazy, that’s not a great Plan B. Pats coach Bill Belichick said that they might add another backup to their roster, but the options on the market are pretty thin. Some folks have (jokingly) suggested that they get recently retired Peyton Manning or former QB turned baseball player Tim Tebow.
If you find out where to get a QB, can you let us know? The Cleveland Browns will be on their 3rd starting quarterback in as many weeks. Ouch. Now all their hopes are riding on rookie Cody Kessler, after Robert Griffin III and Josh McCown suffered shoulder injuries in Weeks 1 and 2. If you’ve been trying to keep track of the Browns’ starting QBs, you might have lost count when you ran out of fingers and toes. Kessler will be lucky #26 since 1999.
***FANTASY FOOTBALL ALERT*** You probably heard a lot of grumbling about these big injuries from the weekend. Adjust your fantasy football teams, accordingly.
- Minnesota Vikings superstar running back Adrian Peterson has a torn meniscus in his right knee. TBD on when he’ll return, but estimates say 2-3 weeks.
- San Diego Chargers lost their top receiver Danny Woodhead for the whole season to an ACL tear.

Tebow T-shirts. Former QB turned baseball prospect Tim Tebow just started his stint in the N.Y. Mets’ instructional league, but he already has the top selling N.Y. Mets jersey. (Psst—the instructional league is a 3-week long camp to learn baseball basics with coaches.) MLB teams aren’t technically allowed to sell players’ jerseys until they make the major league roster, but Tebow signed a special deal to let the Mets start selling his jersey right away.
