The One Where Wade Makes a Splash

Fun Fact of the Day:  The longest match ever played at Wimbledon was between John Isner (U.S.A.) and Nicolas Mahut (France).  It took Isner 11 hours and 5 minutes, played over the course of 3 days to defeat Mahut.

Today's Rundown

If you can’t stand the Heat, move to Chicago… After spending his entire 13 season career with the Miami Heat and 3 NBA Championships, Dwyane Wade is saying adios and signing with the Chicago Bulls. Recently Wade has had a few rough seasons due to injuries, but last year he looked like his old self, scoring 19 points a game in the regular season and 21.4 in the playoffs. As a Heat veteran, Wade demanded a big 2-year, $50M contract to stick around, but the team wouldn’t budge above $40M for the aging superstar. Wade just called their bluff and is leaving for his childhood hometown of Chicago, where he will join stars Jimmy Butler and Rajon Rondo.  Wade’s wife Gabrielle Union better trade in her crop tops for some Canada Goose parkas.

I’m getting tired just watching you…  Yesterday, Roger Federer beat Marin Cilic in 5 long sets to advance to the Wimbledon semifinals!  Federer narrowly avoided elimination and staged an epic comeback, after losing the first 2 sets.  He is now one step closer to winning his 18th major. Even though he’s still one of the best tennis players in the world, Federer hasn’t won a Grand Slam title since 2012.  With Federer’s growing list of old man problems (knee surgery and back pain) and archrival Novak Djokovic out of the tournament, this could be one of his last and best chances to win another title. Next up, Federer will face #5-ranked Milos Raonic in the semis on Friday.  Another marathon session. Right after Federer’s epic match, Andy Murray defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in another exhausting 5-set, 4-hour slog.  Murray will advance to play Tomas Berdych in the semis.

The Ronaldo Show.  Yesterday, Portugal defeated Wales (2-0) to advance to the Euro finals!  Superstar and metrosexual baller Cristiano Ronaldo scored one of the team’s goals, tying Michel Platini’s all time record for most goals scored in the Euros.  But that’s nothing new, Ronaldo has been setting records throughout the tournament, including becoming the first player to score a goal in 4 Euros and reach 3 Euro semifinals. Next up, Portugal will face the winner of today’s Germany v. France game.

Things get Messi for the family. Fresh off Argentina's 2nd consecutive loss in the Copa America finals and his spontaneous retirement from the national team, superstar Lionel Messi and his dad were found guilty on 3 counts of tax fraud. They are appealing the decision. The court ordered them to pay a $3.9M fine and sentenced each to 21 months in prison. Don’t worry Messi can probably serve the time on probation instead of behind bars. What did they do?  Documents from the Panama Papers leak showed that they were using shell companies to get around paying Spanish taxes (where Messi plays soccer for the Barcelona football club). Messi’s excuse was that trusted his dad and advisors to handle his money and didn’t actually read anything he signed. Ay Papi!

Seen and Heard

And they lived happily ever after…  Yesterday, singer Ciara and Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson finally sealed the deal (and sealed the deal *wink wink*) with a secret wedding ceremony at a castle in England. Congrats to the happy couple!
