The One with Steph Curry’s Mouthguard

Fun Fact of the Day: Want to remember this crazy NBA Finals forever?  One of Golden State Warriors Steph Curry’s used mouthguards will be auctioned off this summer and it’s expected to go for at least $5K.  Maybe he’s found a new income stream for next season?  Curry apparently chews through a new mouthguard every 3-4 games.

Today's Rundown

NBA

OMG WE HAVE A GAME 7!  THIS IS NOT A DRILL!  Last night the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Golden State Warriors 115-101 to bring the series back to Oakland for Game 7 this Sunday.  Now, the Cavs have a chance to become the first team to win a championship after being down 3-1 in the series! Cavs superstar LeBron James lit up the court, scoring another 41 points after a brilliant 41-point performance in Game 5. Meanwhile expect more GoFundMe pages to keep Cavs star Kevin Love out of the game. Love was nowhere to be found after being benched early and often for foul troubleUm… can you get to the ejection already???!!!  It was a really rough night for Warriors star and MVP Steph Curry who fouled out of the game.  He argued the last call with the refs and got ejected for throwing his mouthpiece in frustration and accidentally hitting this fan.  Warriors coach Steve Kerr called 3 of the fouls “absolutely ridiculous.” Steph Curry’s wife agreed, sending out tweets about the grand NBA conspiracy and later deleting them, blaming the heat of the moment and an earlier racial profiling incident involving her dad.  Fans went crazy wondering if Steph would be suspended for Game 7 for throwing the mouthpiece, but now it seems that he’ll just receive a fine.

SOCCER

I believe that we will win.  Yesterday, the US defeated Ecuador 2-1 to advance to the semifinals of the Copa America! Clint Dempsey and Gyasi Zardes both scored for the US of A.  This is Dempsey’s 52nd international goal, just 5 behind Landon Donovan’s American record.  The game got heated in the 2nd half when the teams got into a scuffle because of a harsh tackle.  Antonio Valencia from Ecuador collected his 2nd yellow card for the tackle and Jermaine Jones from the U.S. received a red card for joining the fray.  Next up, we’ll be playing either Argentina or Venezuela on Tuesday, and it will be a serious challenge without Jones (suspended for the red card) or Alejandro Bedoya and Bobby Wood, who both got their second yellow cards of the tournament.

GOLF

Wet and wild.  Yesterday, Round 1 of the U.S. Open was a complete wash out. They stopped for 3 rain delays before calling it quits for the day.  So far Andrew Landry is leading the pack with an impressive 3-under par with only 1 hole remaining in his first round. Umm… who is that?  Good question! Landry is a PGA Tour rookie and this is his first major championship. He’s currently ranked #624 in the world, so yesterday was probably the best day of his life.  Who didn’t fare so well?  Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler, and Masters champion Danny Willett are all struggling on the U.S.’s hardest golf course.  So far, Jordan Spieth is at a respectable 1-over par, but he also felt the wrath of the Oakmont course.  He was caught yelling, "You gotta be kidding me! How is that that in the bunker? That is such crap!" as his ball made this sneaky move.

MLB

Get well soon! N.Y. Mets 3B and captain David Wright is getting surgery for a herniated disk in his neck. No word yet on if he’ll be back this season.  Will they miss him?  You betcha.  Wright hasn’t had the best season, but he’s definitely the leader of the team.  Wright has been with the Mets since he was drafted in 2001 and he made his majors debut in 2004.  He holds a bunch of franchise records and has been a 7x All-Star, 2x Gold Glove winner, and 2x Silver Slugger winner.
