The One With Mystery Meat

Fun Fact of the Day:  Last night, the Cleveland Cavaliers made 25 3-pointers against the Atlanta Hawks.  That’s the most of any game in NBA history.  Did I get your attention Golden State Warriors?

Today's Rundown

NBA:  NBA Playoffs Round 2

Splash Brothers?  Try Splash City. Last night the Cleveland Cavaliers could not miss against the Atlanta Hawks, defeating them 123-98 to lead the series 2-0.  Ten different Cavs players hit a 3-pointer to help them reach an incredible record-high 25 3-pointers—and that doesn’t even count this backwards half court shot by their mascot, Moondog. The Cavs made 18 3-pointers in the 1st half alone (a new NBA record), while 6 teams in the NBA have never made 18 3-pointers in any game.

NHL: Stanley Cup Playoffs Round 2

Demoralized yet?  Last night, the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Washington Capitals 3-2 in overtime to lead the series 3-1.  It’s not fair.  During the last game, the Caps looked dominant on the ice, so many thought they would come back to tie up the series 2-2.  But that was a pipe dream.  Now, the NHL’s best regular season team has lost 3 straight games and is on the brink of elimination from the playoffs, yet again.  The Caps were not able to take advantage of Penguins defenseman Kris Letang's absence, who was serving a 1-game suspension for a high hit on Caps forward Marcus Johansson during the last game.

Some real athletic Spaniards.  Yesterday, Real Madrid defeated Manchester City (1-0) to advance to the Champions League Final on May 28.  Madrid striker Gareth Bale scored when the ball deflected ever so slightly off Manchester’s Fernando into his own goal. Whomp whomp.  In the Final, Real Madrid will face their cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid.  Does that sound familiar?  These 2 teams last met in the Champions League Final in 2014, when Real Madrid won it all.

Seen and Heard

New bottom dwellers?  Yesterday, Alex Rodriguez was placed on the 15-day disabled list for a strained hamstring.  From checking his sad stats so far this season (hitting .194 with 5 home runs), you’d probably think—Meh! They don’t need him!  But you’d be wrong.  The Yankees are in a deep pit of despair and they really need A-Rod’s help.  How deep?  The Yankees have the worst record in the AL East and are off to an 8-16 start, which is their worst start in 24 games since 1991.  Even though the Yankees’ bullpen is supposed to be one of the best in the league, their starting rotation is terrible and they cannot score to save their lives.  A-Rod’s 5 home runs are a team high, and over the past 4 games he was just getting into a groove hitting .429.  So ya, unfortunately those 15-days are going to hurt.

Those tacos might be making you stronger.  Houston Texans offensive lineman Duane Brown had a 10-game suspension overturned because he proved he wasn’t using PEDs.  How did he do it?  He provided the NFL with receipts for 10 hamburgers and 2 steaks that he ate during a trip to Mexico.  Apparently, Mexican farmers like to feed their cows PEDs to beef them up a bit.  Going on a meat binge like Brown did can cause you test positive on drug tests.  Happy Cinco de Mayo!  Afterwards, the NFL issued a memo to warn all players to avoid eating beef in Mexico and China.
