The One Where We Spring Forward

Fun Fact of the Day: A #1 seed has lost in the Sweet 16 or earlier in each of the last 6 NCAA tournaments.

Happy Monday Goalposters!  We all missed that hour of sleep, but here’s your weekend rundown so you don’t miss out on the latest sports news.

Today's Rundown

Meet the newest Bronco. QB Mark Sanchez was traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to the Denver BroncosEverybody wins…  With this deal, the Eagles got to dump their expensive 3rd string QB and the Broncos got a decent QB on the cheap (they just gave up a conditional 7th round draft pick).  Why the fire sale on Sanchez?  He starting off his career with a bang leading the NY Jets to 2 consecutive AFC Championship games, but lately he’s regressed and lost his pretty boy swagger. Are the Broncos really betting it all on Sanchez?  Don’t worry the Broncos are still exploring other options for a starting QB.

Brown and out.  Former Heisman award-winning QB Johnny Manziel was released from the Cleveland Browns.  It wasn’t a big surprise because he’s been a hot mess, including nonstop partying shenanigans and a serious domestic dispute investigationWill Johnny Football play again?  It’s not looking good.  Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has always really liked Manziel, but even he said they aren’t interested until Johnny gets his “life back in order.”

Until next year.  Young and talented Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant is facing a year-long suspension for drug use, which he plans to appeal while he enters rehab.  Déjà vu?  Bryant has had some behavioral problems in the past, including a 4 game suspension last season for marijuana use.  Now, the people around him are getting concerned, because he’s also been battling depression.

Spotlight on Selection Sunday

Are you ready to dance?  After some exciting conference tournaments last week, the selection committee revealed the bracket of 68 teams that made it into March Madness!

Who were the big winners?  Kansas, UNC, Oregon, and Virginia are your #1 seeds!

Who got snubbed? Monmouth and Valparaiso were really promising bubble teams, but weren’t selected for the Big Dance.

What were the conference tournament highlights?

  • UConn is going dancing after winning the American Conference, but people will be talking about how they got there, especially this insane shot from beyond the half court line to take them to quadruple overtime against Cincinnati in the quarterfinals.
  • Oklahoma just barely lost in the Big 12 Conference semifinals to West Virginia (67-69), when Buddy Hield’s half court shot was late by a split second.
  • Villanova lost to Seton Hall in the Big East Tournament to become a #2 seed in the Big Dance.

Now it’s time to fill out your bracket!

Seen and Heard

Seal the deal.  Over the weekend, R&B songstress Ciara and Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson got engaged, showing off some serious **BLING** on Instagram. Fans like Khloe Kardashian will be glad to hear that the celibacy-wait is nearly over and they can finally consummate the thing.
