For Sale

Fun Fact of the Day: On top of his pitching talent, Chris Sale also has the gift of a fantastic metabolism. He is listed at a slim 6’6” and 180 pounds and has problems gaining weight. This past season his goal was to get up to 200 pounds by eating more steak, pizza, cheeseburgers, and tacos. Do you hear that? It’s the world’s tiniest violin.

Today’s Rundown

MLB

Let’s dye those socks red.  Left-handed ace Chris Sale was traded from the Chicago White Sox to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for 4 top prospects. Sale is a fantastic and consistent pitcher, who has finished in the top-6 of the AL Cy Young (top pitcher) voting for the past 5 seasons. He’s expected to help boost the Red Sox’s already impressive starting rotation that includes David Price and reigning AL Cy Young winner Rick Porcello. But the deal will also help out the rebuilding White Sox. They got some much-needed young talent from the Red Sox including, highly touted infield prospect Yoan Moncada and pitching prospect Michael Kopech. Everybody wins!

You can’t spell tragedy without rage.  After public outcry, Louisiana police finally arrested Ronald Gasser on felony manslaughter charges. Gasser is suspected of murdering former NFL and USC running back Joe McKnight in a road rage incident last week. McKnight reportedly cut off Gasser in his car, which led to a verbal altercation and escalated to Gasser fatally shooting McKnight 3 times. Immediately after the incident, the police arrested and interviewed Gasser for 10 hours. Then they released him from custody to collect more evidence. The police have been on the defensive, after receiving a lot of racially charged criticism of their early release of Gasser. The suspect, Gasser is white, while the victim, McKnight was black.

Ronaldo and Messi compete in everything. Spanish authorities are investigating Real Madrid footballer Cristiano Ronaldo for tax fraud. It is reported that Ronaldo diverted at least €150M to the British Virgin Islands to evade taxes. Of course, Ronaldo’s camp denies any wrongdoing. If he’s found guilty, pretty-boy Ronaldo could receive, up 6 years in prison. Fortunately, he can point to some useful precedent. Just this past summer, Ronaldo’s archrival Lionel Messi was also found guilty of tax fraud. He was forced to pay a big $3.9M fine and sentenced to 21 months in prison, which was reduced to probation because he was as first-time offender.

MLB

A fit panda.  After suffering a season-ending shoulder injury, Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval (affectionately dubbed the “Kung Fu Panda”) is healthy and back in shape! Last season, things got really bad for Sandoval. He played so poorly he lost the 3B starting job to Travis Shaw, and he was the butt of everyone’s jokes when he got so chubby his belt buckle fell apart while he was at bat. Now, it looks like he’s fixed both problems! He’s gotten in such killer shape that he’s won his old job back and the Red Sox have shipped off Shaw to the Milwaukee Brewers.

MMA

McGregor is coming.  Sources say that UFC’s superstar Irishman Connor McGregor might be filming a cameo in one of the 2 remaining seasons of HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones.’  It’s unclear what role he’s being considered for, but with his background he’s a shoe-in for any fighting scene (i.e., nearly every scene). Just last year, McGregor was spotted sparing with 6’9", 400 lb. Hafthor Bjornsson, aka Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane.
