Fun Fact of the Day: The future of MLB looks bright, because baseball’s stars are getting younger! Yesterday, Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant won NL MVP at age 24, just one season after winning Rookie of the Year, and L.A. Angels CF Mike Trout won his 2nd AL MVP at age 25, despite his team’s losing record.
Call the infirmary. The Carolina Panthers squeaked by with a 23-20 victory over the New Orleans Saints, but the win wasn’t without its casualties. Four Panthers players, including star linebacker Luke Kuechly were injured in the 4th quarter of the game, and Saints running back Mark Ingram went out with a head injury.
How upsetting. #5 Louisville was blown out by unranked Houston last night 36-10. Louisville played sloppily all night long, including 3 fumbles that led to turnovers. They also could not protect their star QB Lamar Jackson, who was sacked a whopping 11x during the game. Jackson is still the Heisman trophy front-runner (for best college football player), but this surprise upset did not help his chances.
Seen and Heard
Johnny be good. On top of all his drinking and partying troubles, former Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence this summer, when his ex-girlfriend accused him of hitting her so hard he burst her eardrum. Rumor has it, that Johnny’s legal team has worked out a preliminary deal with prosecutors for a conditional dismissal of the case, but this won’t end his legal woes. Johnny’s still being sued for totaling a rental car and trashing an L.A. rental home where he stayed with friends.
Making some moves. The Houston Astros played a real-life version of “Let’s Make a Deal” yesterday. They signed free-agent outfielder Josh Reddick to a 4-year deal and traded 2 minor league pitchers to the N.Y. Yankees in exchange for catcher Brian McCann.
A Thanksgiving miracle. New Orleans Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday is back to practice, after taking time off to be with his wife, former USWNT soccer player Lauren Holiday. This summer, doctors discovered a benign tumor on Lauren’s brain, while she was several months pregnant with their daughter. Now, both mother and baby are doing well, so Jrue is headed back to practice. And the Pelicans sure can use his help; they are in last place in the Western Conference.
Week 11 game to watch. The primetime game of the week is the Green Bay Packers @ Washington Redskins. These two teams are headed in opposite directions. After a rocky start, the Redskins have been on a hot streak. So much so that QB Kirk Cousins has moved on from screaming “You like that!” to a new celebratory cheer. The Packers, on the other hand, have lost 3 games in a row and everyone is still wondering if there is something wrong with QB Aaron Rodgers. But this could be their bounce back week. After getting decimated by injuries, the Packers should be getting back linebacker Clay Matthews and tight end Jared Cook this week. 8:30pm ET on NBC
Week 12 game to watch. The Week 12 schedule doesn’t look that exciting, but I also said that last week and there were 3 insane upsets. So really, what do I know? With only 2 weeks left of the regular season, the biggest game of the week is a Big 12 showdown between #9 Oklahoma @ #14 WVU. WVU will need to try to put a stop to Oklahoma’s high-flying offense and get by their greatly improved secondary. 8pm ET on ABC
