Fun Fact of the Day: A NFL game that ends in a tie is usually pretty rare. Since 1974, there have only been 22 ties. But strangely enough, there have already been 2 tie games this season.
World Series: The Indians are 1 win away… Last night, the Chicago Cubs beat the Cleveland Indians thanks to a spectacular 8-out performance by their closer Aroldis Chapman. But the Cubbies have a tough road ahead. The Indians still lead the series 3-2 and they’re headed back home to Cleveland for the last 2 games.
Week 8 highlights:
- Dueling rookie QBs. Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott just barely beat out the Philadelphia Eagles’ Carson Wentz, in last night’s battle of the rookie QBs. The Cowboys took home victory in overtime, thanks to Prescott’s game-winning drive. It also looks like Dak will hold onto the starting QB job for a bit longer, because Tony Romo is still recovering from his broken back and isn’t expected to play next week.
- Waddaya know? A tie football game in London. In this week’s international series game in London, the Washington Redskins and Cincinnati Bengals played to a 27-27 tie. Weirdly enough, this was the 2nd tie of the season after last week’s anticlimactic draw between the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona.
- Cam target practice. After yesterday’s win against the Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton said he’s sick and tired of getting blasted with big hits without the refs calling penalties. Yesterday, he got hit hard below the knees, and lo-and-behold… no whistle. Cam called it “bullcrap” that he’s treated differently from other QBs, just because he’s bigger and more athletic.
Week 9 highlights.
- Out of the running. This was a rough weekend for the Big 12. Their last two undefeated teams, #8 Baylor and #10 West Virginia both lost to unranked teams. That means you probably wont be seeing them in the College Football Playoffs this year.
Would you like some cheese with that whine? #3 Clemson came back from behind to beat #11 Florida State 37-34 and Florida State’s coach Jimbo Fisher was not happy about it. During the game, the refs called a penalty that negated a big Florida State play. Jimbo chewed out the refs and got flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct, but he didn’t stop there. After the game, he kept complaining and got fined $20,000 by the ACC.

The next big DV test. ICYMI the NFL has a big domestic violence problem. Just last week, they took forever and a day to fire NY Giants kicker Josh Brown, even though he admitted to abusing his wife. Now, they already have a second chance to take a hard stance against domestic violence. They are in the middle of investigating Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Ezekiel Elliot, who was accused of abusing an ex-girlfriend. Even though criminal charges were dropped, sources say Elliott could still face a lengthy suspension. A harsh penalty would send a big message, because Elliott is having a ridiculously good debut season; he currently leads the NFL in rushing yards.
The Kardashian Kurse strikes again. Khloe Kardashian’s divorce from Lamar Odom is almost finalized and she’s already found her next victim boyfriend, Cleveland Cavaliers power forward Tristan Thompson. Rumor has it that Thompson’s teammate LeBron James doesn’t want Khloe coming to games because he believes in the Kardashian Kurse—athletes that have been linked to Khloe like Odom and James Harden seem to go through a serious slump. Coincidence? LeBron thinks not.
Minnesota Vikings (5-1) @ Chicago Bears (1-6). The Vikings lost their first game of the season last week. Fortunately, they get to play a nice easy game against the Bears to bounce back. 8:30pm ET on ESPN
