Trust the Process

Fun Fact of the Day: On Tuesday night, the Golden State Warriors lost their home opener by 29 points. In the previous 2 seasons combined, they lost only 4 regular season home games by a total of 25 points.

Today’s Rundown

World Series Game 2: The Chicago Cubs tie things up!  The Cubs beat the Cleveland Indians 5-1 thanks to Cubs ace Jake Arrieta, who went nearly 6 innings before giving up a hit. Now, the series is tied up at 1 win apiece and the teams are headed to Chicago for the next 3 games. Who else is really invested in the outcome?  NBA superstars LeBron James and Dwyane Wade have a friendly bet going based on whose home team wins the World Series.

Trust the Process.  Last night, the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Philadelphia 76ers 103-97, but Philly showed that it might have a brighter future than last season’s comical 10-72 tank job. There were a lot of off-the-court distractions, including one 76ers fan getting kicked out for flipping the bird at Thunder star Russell Westbrook and the national anthem singer getting bumped for wearing a “We Matter” jersey. But on the court, 76ers big man Joel “The Process” Embiid stole the show! He was selected #3 in the 2014 NBA draft but sat out the past 2 years with foot injuries. Last night, he made his impressive NBA debut, scoring 20 points in just 22 minutes and blocking a shot by Westbrook.

Who else had a surprisingly good debut?  In their first game post-Kobe Bryant, the LA Lakers beat the Houston Rockets 120-114.

Seen and Heard

Tragedy at sea.  Last month, Miami Marlins ace Jose Fernandez and 2 friends were killed after their boat hit a jetty at full speed. An official autopsy report has yet to be be released, but a warrant affidavit revealed that the men smelled of alcohol when they were pulled from the wreckage. Fernandez was one of the most promising young pitchers in MLB, having won the 2013 NL Rookie of the Year. He left behind a girlfriend, who was pregnant with their first child.

A real Cubs fan?  When the Cubs won the NL pennant last week, Hillary Clinton was photographed watching the game and looking very excited. Because everything in this election is contentious, a lot of people immediately started questioning Clinton’s fandom. Yesterday, the GOP even published an investigation entitled “Bandwagon Hillary.” We’ll help clear up the fandom mystery… Growing up outside of Chicago, Hillary grew up as Cubs fan, watching games with her dad. But later in life she said she adopted the NY Yankees as her second team to “counterbalance the experience of losing every single year,” which she said was “just too hard.” What about that other guy? Trump grew up in NY and is also a Yankees fan. He’s even said he’d like to buy the team.

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes … Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson and his wife R&B star Ciara announced that they are expecting a baby. They certainly got busy in a hurry, after famously remaining celibate until their wedding this summer. Congrats to the happy couple!
